Titled “Lá bainise sona”, meaning “happy wedding day” in Irish, this project is a heartfelt exploration of love, family, and heritage. I created two distinct wedding outfits as part of a conceptual design brief: imagining pieces for a fictional sister on her special day.
The designs draw inspiration from the wedding dresses worn by generations of women in my family. I carefully reinterpreted elements from my mother’s 1990s gown, as well as both of my grandmothers’ dresses from the 1970s and 1960s. The result is a modern homage to tradition, filled with emotional depth and personal symbolism.
Although the brief centres around a fictional bride, the emotional foundation of this project is very real. It serves as a tribute to loved ones who are no longer with us—especially Nan and Grandad Bowen, and Nan Beard. Through every stitch and thoughtful detail, I’ve worked to honour their memory and presence, creating designs that feel not only beautiful but truly meaningful.
